We are preparing to go to the border again to conduct a 4-day art workshop for the Myanmar kids.
Please pray for us…for safe travels, our health & most of all that we’ll bring the name of Jesus wherever we go!

Our ongoing goal is to know all the teachers at Wat Mai Krathumlom. It’s quite a challenge because only a couple can speak a little bit of English.
Last week was Mother’s Day so we gave all the female teachers & staff (all 12 of them) a small bag of our favorite chocolates, with a hand-painted card. That did the trick, most of them tried to talk to us & expressed their “thank you”.
PTL!
We have been quite busy for the last few months. Last February, we were invited again to teach the kids and adults at Baan Glory (House of Glory). This ministry helps the marginalized people who cross the Thai-Burma border. We were there for a week. We held a watercolor camp for both the kids and adults. We witnessed how they can progress from not knowing how to hold a brush, to making an incredible painting at the culmination of the event.
The long and backbreaking trip from Bangkok to Sangkhlaburi is all worth it. We have been teaching the same kids online for the past month, but because of some limitations (wifi connection, language, & personal touch), we have decided to teach them the basic face-to-face and continue the advanced lessons online.
On the last day of the event, we had a competition in two categories, abstract and non-abstract. The winners were all happy to receive their prizes, but more importantly, they were able to experience how to paint beautifully without knowing that they can do it. PRAISE THE LORD!
When we arrived in Bangkok, we immediately prepared for our English Summer Camp for our teenage students. These students are enrolled in a prestigious school for gifted students. We taught these teenagers weekly for the whole duration of their summer break.
Most of them would log in early for our Zoom meetings, I’m always tickled pink when that happens because I know they are excited to attend my class. I get comments like “I did not know how to make English sentences, until now”, “I like that I can talk in English with you & my classmates”, “I like listening to you”. They have decided to continue their English classes even during their semester!
Richard & I are so privileged to be able to teach all these kids and to show them the tangible love of Christ. All these are possible through your support and most of all your encouraging words and prayers.

We started teaching watercolor online to Myanmar kids at the border. You would hear a pin drop when I give them instructions..ahh, such JOY!
The Singaporean lady who takes care of them would still want us to visit the site next year. Please pray with us!
We got a brand new laptop!
Our old one was given by one of our students, because back then we can’t afford to buy a new one. But Praise God! Because of all of you who has given to this ministry, we can get a good one, suitable for our needs. Goodbye freezing, Goodbye turtle speed downloads, Goodbye distorted images on the screen! Goodbye HP DV5.
Welcome lightning speed downloads, Welcome sharp graphics, Welcome crisp audio and video!
Welcome ASUS Vivobook 15.
Ask and it shall be given to you. Matthew 7:7
CAN WE STILL STAY IN THAILAND? IS THIS OUR LAST MONTH? These are our questions for the last year and a half.
As you all know, we have been going to the Immigration Bureau every month since the start of the pandemic just to get a two months extension. The first extension was really nerve-wracking because we know the officer has the authority to tell us, “Sorry, you have to leave in three days”. But, Praise God, every two months were given an extension.
Last week, we got up at 5:00 am to be at the immigration at 6:30. We waited till 10:30 am before our number was called. The officer right away questioned our marriage certificate which we have been using for the last two years. She put aside our supporting documents for a longer volunteer visa and gave us forms for the usual two months visa. Right away, I was distraught, while we were filling in our forms, I prayed, ”Lord, should I question her”. So when we were giving back the forms, I showed again our documents and with a smile asked why she is rejecting them. She spoke fast in Thai, which of course I didn’t understand, then I just said softly “Thamay” which is Why in Thai. She asked her colleague next to her, and the colleague nodded her head.
Normally, when we’re given two months extension, we will be asked to come back in three weeks to get the rest of the two months extension, this time we got SIX MONTHS EXTENSION straightaway!
Praise God indeed as always, 2 Corinthians 6:4, “in everything we do, we show that we are true ministers of God. We patiently endure troubles and hardships & calamities of every kind” in action, happening before our eyes.
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR PRAYERS!
In Christ,
Richard & Julie
Normally during summer, Thai students just chill and enjoy their vacation, at the same time we revisit all our lesson plans and upgrade to the next level for our regular students. But this summer is different because of the current Covid -19 situation.
We have 3 sets of new students this summer, they preferred to study English and hang out with us.
Aim& India are sisters who live a block from us, their Mom wants them to take advantage of the current schedule to study English.
Kaw is a college student, who commutes for an hour and a half to get to our place. His goal is to study overseas in the very near future.
Pingping and Smart love to come and “play and talk” with us.
Please pray with us that we would be able to teach these kids effectively and more importantly, share the love of JESUS.
Nana did this acrylic painting last Winter Camp. Amazing what kids can do on their first try.
Can you pray with us that we can do this again this year?
Thank You!
Richard & I were having lunch when we saw Nong Ruang our neighbor waiving. She was with a lady who lives at the end of our road. She wants her three daughters ages, 11, 15 & 18 years old to study English with us When I said, YES, we will fit them in our schedule, she was so excited. This is our life here in the village When we decided to migrate here and teach, we were imagining that we will do a lot of legwork to introduce ourselves to the neighborhood, but PRAISE GOD! It was the opposite.
This ministry has about a dozen kids who come regularly and since we have set up our second bedroom a month ago, we pray that we can accommodate more kids. We are also involved in two outreach programs in the depressed area of Bangkok, where we teach arts and crafts, we usually have 20-30 excited kids enjoying the art lessons. We even taught an entire school near the border with 250 kids!
We had two handfuls of supporters which were just enough for our monthly allowance of $500. This pays for educational and art materials, utilities and immigration fees. Then Covid19 hit, understandably people have their priorities but last month, we hit our all-time low bank balance Our giving dipped to $170, so we need to raise $330 a month to maintain our regular operation. We are hopeful that we can continue to serve.
Our prayer is that our new students like Ay, Aim, India their entire household and our current students will continue to have a quality English instruction and most of all know JESUS. I have this fervent desire to have a small art studio which we can open to all our students but we have to put this in the back burner and focus on the more in demand ESL program.
I have been meditating on 2 Corinthians 6:4 “In everything we do, we show that we are true ministers of God. We patiently endure troubles and hardships and calamities of every kind” and this verse always give me peace.
Can you please pray earnestly if you can be one of our regular supporters or give a ONE TIME gift, M1040 Ministries needs you right NOW.

And now these three remain: faith, hope & love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 In the past when we plan our Valentine’s Day, it’s either in a very nice restaurant with good food or a … Continue reading
